Prada SS21

Prada has just released its newest SS21 collection - which is a first time collaboration with Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. When i first saw this collection my thought was -YIKES. And i honestly dont say that lightly. What purple flying frogs were these two thinking when they put this collection together?

Nearly every single shirt has the most forbidding, obvious, grungy badge sewn into the neck of the top of the Prada tag. Like you need to literally show people you are wearing a designer label shirt? For me designer fashion should be recognised because of the style, material, cut and sheer elegance  of the clothing - not because there is a giant sign hanging from my neck telling the world this is couture.

The following items to grace the runway were just as cringe as the predecessors. The thin parkers that looked like Prada labelled straight jackets - tying up at the back. The jumpers with perfect circles cut out all over it, wasn't too bad. But it really reminded me of when i accidentally  left my jumper in the dryer too long and it burnt holes in it.

If anything i think this whole collection embodied  an ultra grunge look. Prada has always been at the forefront of fashion, producing edgier clothes - but i think this collection is taking it that little bit too far and looks bored, tired and to be honest feels like Miuccia and Raf lacked some sort of inspiration.  What i did love in this new collection were the shoes. The triangular peep toe with a built in tongue are so chic and modern. The effect they have when walking is quite mesmerising.

With this new tongue in cheek collection, i must say i am cautiously awaiting to see how other designer brands are going to bring us into SS21.

Heres hoping the new partnership will move from strength to strength in their next collaboration.

Vivrelle - game changer in the luxury retail market

I like many of you love fashion, but staying relevant in fashion can be really hard. From Valentino to Chanel and Celine to Prada, the seasons are bustling with new statement pieces that i want in my closet.  But fashion, especially luxury fashion can be such an expensive endeavour to keep up with. And with most of my paycheck going towards one bag, it can be very difficult to be constantly updating and changing my wardrobe. While most of us look at posts from high fashion influencers like Chiara Ferragni and Jessica Stein, and their ever evolving wardrobe of luxury handbags and fantasise about what new bag to add to our collection. They change bags weekly and move onto a different brand, size and colour, making it difficult to emulate these fashion icons. I love buying a new bag, the smell of new leather and the feeling of peeling the little plastic away from the clasp (is probably my favourite part) no matter the brand, size or colour i find it just as exciting no matter whic...

COVID impact on luxury

2020 has been one giant... i'm just going to say it Cluster duck of a year. But from trial comes triumph, with some companies absolutely flourishing and some gurgling down the toilet. The unfortunate need for companies to pivot, has left some with no choice but to close down. From fashion shows being streamed online, and shop closures. Luxury has relied heavily on their online presence to continue their revenue and trading through the pandemic. With many economist predicting an economic down turn, decrease in sales and all round shrinkage in the luxury niche.  I am of the opinion that the luxury category was only minimally affected by this crisis, and i think the recent black Friday sales have proved that the desire for luxury items is well and truly alive and well. With Valentino nearly selling out of their sale items within the first 48 hours.  I know crazy right?! and Valentino wasn't the only luxury brand that experienced literal sell out crowds, with Dior, Balenciag...
