As this week marks arguably one of the most important weeks in the couture calendar, there is a tinge of sadness in the air. With current constraints the idea of hundreds of people cramped into convention centres and buildings was an unfathomable possibility. With usual catwalk shows on hold due to social distancing measures and ateliers undergoing closures for periods of time, designers have been scrambling to adapt to this new modern world. Enter digital fashion shows that not only showcase the most expensive fashion in the world, but also completely innovating the idea of brings couture for the masses.
Dior was the first notable couture company that dazzled the masses with their first ever fashion show. While it may seem strange for most to be watching the likes if designer Maria Grazia Chirui, completely wow the greater population with her latest collection. I for one loved this new idea, because someone like me, who isn't a fashion model, influencer of notable name in the industry (But still a huge fashion lover nonetheless) these digital fashion shows gave me the chance to finally feel like one of fashions elite. I loved it. I was immersed in the atmosphere, and knowing that everyone around the world was also experiencing the same show, really made me feel valued as a fashion lover.
But back to Dior's latest collection. this autumn/ winter 2020 haute couture collection was told through the fashion film 'Le Mythe Dior' .
"We started working on this collection during lockdown", Dior's artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri explained, and it was this reference that underpinned the whole show; catapulting the show with a clear dream and fantasy themed runway.
'Le Mythe Dior' film that ran parallel to the runway show was directed by renowned Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone, and follows the journey of trunk also seen as a doll house filled with miniature scaled versions of full sized couture dresses. As the trunk travels through the forest it is discovered by a series of woodland nymphs (Who are seen wearing life-size version of the couture pieces).
As the dream like film progresses it pays homage to Théâtre de la Mode - a world war II travelling exhibit of small scaled fashion mannequins and saw artists and designers collaborating and showcasing their work during one of fashions toughest times.

I loved this fashion show, not only because Dior pay tribute to past hardships through taking an idea that couture fashion used in 1945 and reusing it now to showcase the newest collection. But because this show drew on a fantasy theme that my inner book worm just loved. If you are lucky enough to be able to visit a Dior store you can see the the Dior trunk containing the miniature gowns.
Whilst i am still holed away in my house i can honestly say i have never felt more connected to the couture fashion industry.
💋 my fashiontine.
